The folding umbrella is the type a brand reaches for when it wants to hand out a souvenir in volume. The reasons are plain. It's compact, easy to drop into a bag or a car door pocket, and the cheapest per-unit option when printed in the hundreds or thousands. People tend to keep a folding umbrella longer than a long one because it travels well, and every time it opens, your logo comes with it. This page is about custom folding umbrellas, part of the custom umbrella printing work we've done since 2003.
The 21"-23" Size and When to Pick 3-Fold or 2-Fold
The 21"-23" figure refers to rib length, not diameter. Opened, the canopy runs about 95-105 cm, enough to cover one adult. That's the sweet spot for promotion. Smaller feels too flimsy to use; larger gets heavy and costly to hand out at scale.
We produce two folding models. The 3-fold, or pocket umbrella, is the most compact. Folded it's only about 25-30 cm long and fits a work bag or handbag. It suits seminar attendees, gatherings, and welcome kits. The 2-fold is a little longer when folded but has sturdier ribs and roomier panels for printing. If your brand wants the logo to read bigger, the 2-fold gives that extra space.
On the mechanism, you can choose manual or automatic. Auto open-close feels more premium and usually goes with corporate gifts. For mass souvenirs on a tight budget, the manual model keeps the price down without losing function.
Per-Panel Print Area
A folding umbrella has six to eight rib panels, and that's where your branding lives. The print area you choose drives both cost and visual impact.
- One panel. The most economical. Good for a simple brand logo. When the umbrella opens, the logo shows from one side.
- Several alternating panels. The logo appears from more directions at a mid-range cost. Useful if you want the umbrella readable from various angles in a crowd.
- All panels. Maximum branding, often used for designs that wrap the whole canopy. For the best result here, we recommend sublimation.
The print method follows the design. A one- or two-color solid logo is most efficient with manual screen printing. A detailed or gradient design comes out better with sublimation, since the ink soaks into the polyester fibers rather than sitting on the surface. Our team recommends the right method once we see your design file.
MOQ and Price Tiers
The folding umbrella is a volume product. The per-unit price clearly drops as quantity rises, because the print setup cost spreads across more units. We accept small runs for samples or personal gifts, but wholesale pricing starts to show at 50-100 units. At 250 and 500 units the per-unit price drops again, and for orders in the thousands we prepare a custom quote.
What affects the final price: the fold model (3 or 2), the mechanism (manual or auto), the number of panels printed, the number of colors, and the print method. Rather than guess, send your target quantity and design. We reply with full price tiers within one business day, so you can compare options before deciding.
A note on quality. Cheap retail folding umbrellas often use steel ribs that rust fast and thin fabric whose print fades quickly. We use rustproof fiberglass ribs and waterproof ink made for umbrella fabric, so your promo umbrella doesn't fall apart after a few rains. A souvenir that lasts means your logo lasts with it.
The Process, Briefly
Start with a WhatsApp consultation. Tell us the fold model you want, the quantity, and your event deadline. We recommend the model and print area that best fit the budget, then send a single-unit mock-up to approve. After the deposit, production runs, and every umbrella gets checked before it's packed bend-proof for shipping across Indonesia.
