The rice you mill today will stack up in a distributor's warehouse, sit on a store shelf, then go home with a customer. At every one of those points, the sack speaks first. A plain sack blends in with the mill next door, while a sack with a clear name and varietal gets recognized by repeat buyers. We've handled custom sack printing for rice mills and distributors since 2003, and this page is about rice alone.
Size and Material by Distribution Channel
Rice sells in several weights, and each weight needs a different sack. Retail 5 kg for shops and modern stores, family packs of 10 kg, then wholesale 25 kg and 50 kg for distributors and large agents. For premium MSME rice sold through marketplaces, a 1-3 kg mini sack makes more sense.
Two main materials we use for rice:
- PP woven (woven polypropylene). The workhorse for 25-50 kg wholesale. Gramage of 70-90 gsm holds the rice load without tearing when thrown and stacked in a warehouse. Print 1-4 colors for the logo, varietal, and net weight. This is the friendliest price for large volume.
- BOPP laminated. For premium rice sold in modern retail. The full-color BOPP film shows photos of rice grains, paddies, or your brand in vivid color with a glossy surface. This is what rice brands use when they want to look like an FMCG product.
Plenty of distributors use both: BOPP for the premium 5 kg line on modern shelves, printed PP woven for the 50 kg wholesale sold into traditional markets. During the consultation we help separate what needs to look premium from what can stay economical, so packaging budget doesn't get spent on the wrong line.
Food-Grade Considerations
Rice is a food product, so contact with the packaging surface matters. We print the ink on the outer side of the sack. For rice sold directly to end consumers, we offer an optional food-grade LDPE inner liner inside the sack, so the rice never touches the weave or the printed area. That liner also holds back warehouse humidity and keeps the rice fresher longer.
For BOPP sacks, the laminated structure already seals tight, and we point you to the right inner combination if the rice is packed without a separate plastic bag inside. Tell us at consultation whether the rice will be packed in a separate inner bag or loaded straight into the sack, so we recommend the right structure.
Mandatory Information on Rice Sacks
Rice sacks sold at retail need complete information to look trustworthy: product and varietal name, net weight, the mill or distributor name and address, plus a registration permit if the rice sells as a branded product. For premium rice, add the region of origin, mill type, and a QR code to your online store. Our design team helps lay it out so all the information fits without looking crowded.
Pricing Logic
Per-sack price drops as quantity rises. PP woven with 1-2 color printing is most economical from 1,000 pieces and up. Full-color BOPP sacks carry a higher MOQ because they involve rotogravure printing and a lamination stage, so they make most sense for distributors running monthly production. Production runs 7-14 business days for PP woven, 14-21 days for BOPP. For orders ahead of harvest season we schedule in batches. We send final pricing within a day of receiving complete specs.
Rice produced in high volume often gets paired with animal feed sacks for clients who also run a livestock line, and with food-safe lamination for premium rice lines. We can run both in a single order.
